Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced external service provider to undertake the refurbishment of the science laboratory at Delft High School in the Western Cape. The project aims to upgrade and modernize the laboratory facilities to enhance the learning environment for students and staff, ensuring compliance with relevant safety, health, and building standards.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• All construction, refurbishment, and installation activities necessary to upgrade the science laboratory, including plumbing, electrical, gas, and ventilation systems.
• Removal and disposal of old equipment, waste, and debris.
• Refurbishment of teacher and student workstations, including furniture, surfaces, and fixtures.
• Installation of new equipment such as smart boards, projectors, fume hoods, fire safety equipment, and gas cylinders.
• Provision of safety and compliance documentation, as-built drawings, and training for school personnel.
• Ensuring all work complies with local building, health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements encompass:

• Compliance with local building codes, health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Installation of a chemical-resistant 1500L conservancy tank, connected to plumbing and gas systems.
• Supply and installation of laboratory furniture, including teacher and student workstations, cabinets, and chairs.
• Installation of electrical systems, power points, and data connections for smart boards and projectors.
• Provision of laboratory safety equipment such as fume hoods, fire extinguishers, fire doors, burglar bars, and window blinds.
• Installation of plumbing, gas lines, and wastewater management systems, including certification and compliance certificates.
• Testing, commissioning, and demonstration of all installed systems and equipment.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Proven experience in laboratory refurbishment projects, including plumbing, electrical, and gas installations.
• Relevant qualifications and certifications for project management, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and safety personnel.
• Ability to provide manufacturer datasheets, as-built drawings, and technical documentation.
• Capability to conduct safety inspections, testing, and commissioning of all systems.
• Experience in handling waste disposal, environmental compliance, and safety standards specific to laboratory environments.
• Strong project management skills, including risk assessment, change management, and reporting.
• Capacity to train school personnel on the operation and safety of installed systems.
