Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint experienced mentors to train and support identified livestock and crop projects over a period of thirty-six (36) months. The mentorship aims to enhance the skills of smallholder farmers, improve productivity, facilitate business and technical decision-making, and promote sustainable agricultural practices within targeted sectors such as livestock, poultry, vegetables, field crops, and agro-processing.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Providing mentorship services to selected projects across various clusters (livestock, white meat, vegetables, field crops, agro-processing).
• Exposing mentees to all operations of a farming venture, guiding sound business and technical decisions, and promoting best practices.
• Conducting regular assessments, training seminars, baseline trials, and on-site visits.
• Supporting project development, organization, management, and social sustainability.
• Facilitating participation in seminars and workshops, and assisting in market access and networking.
• Preparing progress reports and ensuring quality standards are met.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Mentors must hold a minimum of a National Diploma in Agriculture (Animal Production for Livestock or Plant/Agronomy/Horticulture for Crop production).
• Mentors should have proven experience in livestock or crop programs, including providing mentorship, training, and project implementation support.
• Mentors must demonstrate financial capacity, organizational resources, and relevant accreditation (e.g., AGRISETA).
• Mentors are expected to develop and implement work plans, conduct assessments, and submit monthly reports with evidence of activities.
• Mentors should participate in seminars, baseline trials, and ongoing project evaluations.
• Mentors must be able to visit projects regularly, provide technical guidance, and support business development activities.

Skills Requirements

The skills required for the tender include:

• Agricultural expertise: In livestock (beef, dairy, sheep, goats) and crop production (vegetables, grains, agro-processing).
• Mentorship and training skills: Ability to transfer knowledge, develop business and technical skills, and support capacity building.
• Project management: Planning, monitoring, and reporting on mentorship activities and project progress.
• Communication skills: Ability to conduct seminars, workshops, and one-on-one mentoring sessions effectively.
• Assessment and evaluation: Conducting baseline trials, continuous assessments, and performance reviews.
• Networking and market facilitation: Supporting farmers to access markets and develop linkages.
• Reporting and documentation: Preparing progress reports, evidence portfolios, and compliance documentation.
