Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a qualified service provider to conduct geotechnical investigations at eighty-five (85) schools with circuit offices across Limpopo Province. The investigations aim to assess ground conditions to inform safe and suitable foundation designs for school infrastructure development.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Excavation and profiling of at least three trial pits per school to a minimum depth of 3 meters or refusal.
• Light dynamic penetrometer testing up to 4 meters or refusal.
• Determination of groundwater depth and seasonal variation.
• Chemical analysis of groundwater for corrosiveness (Basson Index).
• Laboratory conductivity tests and geotechnical laboratory testing (Atterberg limits, sieve analysis, UCS, etc.).
• Provision of geotechnical reports: preliminary and final interpretative reports with recommendations for foundations and protective measures.
• Site supervision by a qualified geotechnical engineer or geologist during investigations.
• Coordination with other service providers and adherence to environmental and energy-efficient design principles.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Engagement of a professionally registered geotechnical engineer or geologist (ECSA or SACNASP registered).
• Provision of a qualified on-site specialist during investigations.
• Use of appropriate testing equipment and laboratory facilities with SANAS accreditation.
• Preparation of detailed geotechnical reports in PDF, Word, and GIS-compatible formats.
• Compliance with relevant standards, including the CIDB Standard Conditions of Tender and the CIDB Standard for Uniformity in Engineering and Construction Works Contracts.
• Adherence to environmental sustainability and energy efficiency in design and investigation processes.

Skills Requirements

The skills and professional qualifications required include:

• Professional registration with ECSA or SACNASP as a Geotechnical Engineer or Geologist.
• Experience in geotechnical site investigations, soil sampling, and laboratory testing.
• Ability to interpret geotechnical data and prepare comprehensive reports.
• On-site supervision and coordination skills.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software and GIS applications for data analysis and reporting.
• Effective communication skills for technical reporting and stakeholder engagement.
