Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure services for the collection, servicing, and return of fire fighting equipment at Durban-Westville and Umzinto Correctional Centres. The aim is to ensure that fire safety equipment is maintained in optimal condition across specified correctional facilities, supporting safety and compliance standards.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Collection of fire fighting equipment from designated correctional centres.
• Servicing and maintenance of various fire safety devices, including hose reels, hydrants, and extinguishers (e.g., DCP, CO2 types).
• Return of serviced equipment to the respective correctional centres.
• Coverage of multiple locations within Durban and Umzinto correctional facilities, with detailed lists of equipment and locations provided in Annexure A.
• Provision of services over a period of 12 months, with options for periodic servicing as specified.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Compliance with the Department of Correctional Services' specifications and standards.
• Adherence to relevant safety and quality standards such as SANS 1475 for fire equipment.
• CIDB registration with a grading of 1SF or higher for fire prevention and protection systems.
• Company must have qualified artisans/technicians, SABS registration, and SAQCC certification.
• Compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act during service delivery.
• Provision of confirmation of supply arrangements (BD 27) from suppliers if sourcing from third parties.
• Attendance at a compulsory site briefing and submission of proof of attendance.

Skills Requirements

The skills and qualifications required include:

• Technicians and artisans with valid SAQCC certifications and relevant technical expertise in fire equipment servicing.
• Personnel familiar with safety standards, inspection, and maintenance procedures for fire safety devices.
• Company staff must be registered with the Department of Labour and hold a valid Letter of Good Standing for Workmen’s Compensation.
• Ability to perform inspections, tests, and analyses in accordance with contractual and safety standards.
• Effective communication and reporting skills, including attendance at site briefings and submission of required documentation.
