Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a qualified and experienced contractor to provide maintenance and repair services for sliding doors and roller doors at King Shaka International Airport over a period of 36 months. The goal is to ensure the doors operate reliably, safely, and in compliance with applicable standards, legislation, and OEM requirements, while minimizing costs and maintaining high safety standards.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Preventive and corrective maintenance of all sliding and roller doors installed at the airport.
• Fault finding, reporting, and timely repairs to ensure continuous operation.
• Meeting OEM standards and applicable legal and safety regulations.
• Providing skilled staff, including artisans and technical assistants, to execute the work.
• Maintaining equipment within the specified lifespan and ensuring system performance indicators are met.
• Procurement of spare parts and third-party services in accordance with OEM warranties and airport safety requirements.
• Adhering to safety, environmental, and occupational health and safety policies and procedures.
• Ensuring minimal disruption to airport operations during maintenance activities.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements encompass:

• Compliance with OEM standards for all equipment.
• Implementation of a comprehensive maintenance program including scheduled inspections, lubrication, alignment, and calibration.
• Use of approved tools, equipment, and safety gear.
• Adherence to the specified maintenance frequencies, e.g., biannual checks for sliding doors and annual checks for roller doors.
• Provision of detailed maintenance procedures, including safety protocols, lockout procedures, and emergency response plans.
• Implementation of a Service Level Agreement with defined availability, response times, and defect liability periods.
• Use of approved spare parts and ensuring OEM warranties are maintained.
• Regular reporting on maintenance activities, system performance, and incident management.

Skills and Skills Requirements

The contractor must demonstrate:

• Proven experience in maintaining and repairing sliding and roller doors, preferably in an airport or similar high-security environment.
• Qualified personnel including artisans with SAQA-accredited trade tests and relevant technical assistants.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance and installation of industrial shutter doors for artisans.
• Knowledge of OEM equipment, safety standards, and relevant South African legislation (e.g., OHS Act, POPIA).
• Ability to develop and implement maintenance plans, safety procedures, and emergency response protocols.
• Capacity to procure and manage spare parts, including understanding OEM warranties and quality standards.
• Competence in reporting, documentation, and compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
• Effective communication skills for coordination with airport authorities and internal stakeholders.
