Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a contractor for the rehabilitation of Runway 08/26 and taxiways at Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport, for a duration of 27 months. The aim is to ensure the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of the airport's runway and taxiway infrastructure through comprehensive rehabilitation works.

Scope

The scope includes the rehabilitation of the runway 08/26 and associated taxiways, including cross-sections, drainage layout, slope layout, and surfacing works. The scope also covers site inspections, technical assessments, and ensuring compliance with technical standards and specifications as detailed in the tender documents. The work involves civil works, surfacing, drainage, safety strips, and related infrastructure to restore and upgrade the runway and taxiways to operational standards.

Technical Requirements

• Adherence to the detailed drawings, cross-sections, and layout specifications provided in the tender documents.
• Compliance with the specified grading, surfacing, drainage, and slope requirements.
• Provision of construction records, site inspections, and technical reports.
• Implementation of safety, health, and environmental standards as per the Occupational Health and Safety Agreement and other relevant regulations.
• Use of approved materials, plant, and equipment as listed in the tender documents.
• Completion of all works within the stipulated 27-month period, maintaining quality and safety standards.
• Provision of project planning, program, and progress reports.

Skills Requirements

• Proven experience in civil infrastructure projects, particularly runway and taxiway rehabilitation or similar road-related projects with a construction value of R30 million or more.
• Key personnel with relevant qualifications and experience, including:
  • Contracts Manager (PrCM, PrCPM, PrEng, PrEngTech)
  • Construction Manager / Site Agent (PrCM, PrCPM, PrEng, PrEngTech)
  • Construction Health and Safety Officer (PrCHSO)
• Demonstrated capability in managing complex civil works, drainage, surfacing, and safety requirements.
• Experience in working on airport or similar high-standard infrastructure projects, with references and project documentation.
• Knowledge of relevant standards, specifications, and safety regulations applicable to airport civil works.
• Ability to provide project planning, scheduling, and progress monitoring.
• Compliance with B-BBEE and preference points requirements, including relevant certification and documentation.
