Objectives

The primary objective of the tender is to design and construct interlocking paving blocks, storm water drainage systems, and roof shelters for three storage yards at Tutuka Power Station. The project aims to improve storage conditions, facilitate site readiness for RFID implementation, and ensure proper stormwater management, material preservation, and safety standards.

Scope

The scope encompasses:

• Design and construction of interlocking paving blocks across various yards, including removal of existing asphalt surfaces and installation of new paving.
• Development of stormwater drainage systems tailored to each yard’s topography and existing conditions.
• Construction of roof shelters of specified sizes and types at designated locations, including structural steel work, cladding, and roofing.
• Implementation of electrical works such as lighting, earthing, lightning protection, and cable routing for shelters and yards.
• Surface preparation, levelling, vegetation clearance, and handling of existing materials during construction.
• Provision of quality control, safety, environmental practices, and project management documentation.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Use of specified standards such as SANS 1058 for paving blocks, SANS 1200 for civil works, and relevant structural and drainage standards.
• Design of subgrade, subbase, and edge restraints to ensure durable and load-bearing pavements.
• Selection of paving block types (S-A, S-B, S-C) and classes (25 MPa, 35 MPa) based on site conditions and load requirements.
• Proper surface drainage design to prevent ponding and manage stormwater runoff effectively.
• Structural steel design, fabrication, and erection for shelters, complying with Eskom and SANS standards.
• Electrical installation including lighting, earthing, lightning protection, and cable management, adhering to Eskom standards.
• Environmental and safety compliance throughout construction activities.

Skills Requirements

The tender requires the following skills and qualifications:

• Registered civil engineers or technologists (Pr. Eng./Pr. Tech) with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in structural and stormwater engineering.
• Electrical engineers or technologists (Pr. Eng./Pr. Tech) with relevant experience in electrical design, earthing, and lightning protection.
• Site managers, supervisors, and safety officers with proven experience in civil and electrical construction projects.
• Design and structural steel fabrication specialists with adherence to SANS and Eskom standards.
• Qualified personnel for quality control, environmental management, and safety compliance.
• Project management and documentation skills for planning, scheduling, and reporting.
