Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure dredging services at Camden Power Station's Pollution Control Dams. The scope includes desilting and maintenance activities to restore the dams' capacity, ensuring compliance with environmental and safety standards over a period of 4 years, as needed.

Scope

The scope of work encompasses:

• Agitating sludge within the dam floors and ramps using approved equipment to facilitate flow.
• Performing bathymetric surveys to determine silt accumulation.
• High-pressure cleaning of dam walls and silt traps.
• Vacuum dredging of silt using high-pressure vacuum trucks.
• Hauling and disposal of non-contaminated sludge at the approved ash dam.
• Hauling and disposal of hydrocarbon-contaminated sludge at Holfontein, as approved.

The work applies to five specific dams: Reclamation Dam, Coal Stockyard Dam, Ash Water Return Dam (AWRD) Compartments 1 & 2, Ash Water Return Reservoir, Reclamation Dam, and Coal Stockyard Dam.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Adherence to SANS 1200G standards for construction activities.
• Bathymetric surveys to quantify silt build-up.
• Use of approved equipment for sludge agitation and high-pressure cleaning (max 1.3 bar).
• Vacuum dredging with high-pressure trucks.
• Proper disposal of sludge at designated sites: non-hydrocarbon sludge at the new ash dam and hydrocarbon-contaminated sludge at Holfontein.
• Compliance with environmental and safety standards, including ISO 9001, OHSACT, and relevant SANS standards.

Skills Requirements

The tenderer must demonstrate:

• Proven experience in dredging and desilting projects of similar scope.
• Qualified personnel with relevant certifications and competencies.
• Capability to perform bathymetric surveys and operate high-pressure cleaning and vacuum equipment.
• Knowledge of environmental management and compliance with applicable standards and legislation.
• Effective management of contractors and suppliers, including monitoring and compliance assessments.
