Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to engage a qualified service provider to perform hot dip galvanizing of steel on an as-and-when-required basis. The work supports power plant maintenance activities within the Mechanical Section in the Mpumalanga Operating Area, with a contract duration of five years. The aim is to ensure the galvanizing process meets Eskom’s quality, safety, and environmental standards, thereby maintaining the integrity and longevity of steel components used in power plant infrastructure.

Scope

The scope encompasses:

• Performing hot dip galvanizing of steel components as specified in Eskom’s technical and quality requirements.
• Providing galvanizing services across multiple Eskom sites within the Mpumalanga Operating Area.
• Ensuring all work complies with Eskom’s safety, health, environment, and quality standards.
• Managing subcontractors and suppliers involved in the galvanizing process, including their quality assurance and control activities.
• Developing and implementing quality management plans, inspection and test plans, and preservation procedures.
• Monitoring and reporting on compliance with contractual and Eskom-specific requirements throughout the contract period.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Adherence to Eskom’s specifications for galvanizing processes and quality standards.
• Implementation of a documented Quality Management System (QMS) conforming to ISO 9001 standards.
• Development and submission of Contract Quality Plans (CQP) and Inspection & Test Plans (ITP) prior to work commencement.
• Provision of objective evidence such as certificates of compliance, material certifications, and welders’ qualifications.
• Use of approved tools and equipment, with documented evaluation and scoring criteria.
• Participation in Eskom’s quality audits, surveillance, and inspections at supplier and sub-supplier facilities.
• Implementation of preservation and storage procedures to maintain material integrity during transit and storage.
• Compliance with Eskom’s safety, health, environment, and legal requirements, including OHS legal compliance and risk assessments.
• Provision of detailed documentation including method statements, inspection reports, and records of non-conformances and corrective actions.

Skills and Skills Requirements

The tenderer must demonstrate:

• Proven experience in hot dip galvanizing of steel components, preferably within power plant or industrial environments.
• ISO 9001 certification or equivalent quality management system accreditation.
• Qualified personnel for inspection, testing, and quality assurance activities, including welders and special process operators.
• Capability to develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Quality Control Plans (QCP) and Inspection & Test Plans (ITP).
• Competence in risk assessment, environmental management, and safety compliance, including familiarity with OHS legal requirements.
• Ability to manage subcontractors and suppliers, including conducting audits and assessments of their quality systems.
• Strong documentation skills for quality records, certificates, and compliance reports.
• Experience in implementing preservation and storage procedures for steel components during transit and storage phases.
• Capacity to monitor, report, and improve quality performance throughout the contract duration.
