Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to establish a once-off agreement for the purchase, collection, and disposal of a scrap 80 MVA transformer at Rosherville. The successful bidder will be responsible for the safe removal, handling, and disposal of the transformer scrap, including any residual oil, in accordance with Eskom’s requirements and safety standards.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Purchase of the scrap transformer.
• Collection and removal of the scrap transformer from Eskom’s site at Rosherville, Rotek.
• Disposal of the scrap transformer material, including oil, in compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
• Work to be performed on a once-off basis, with task orders issued per site and batch, to be completed within 7 working days of instruction.
• Site cleanup post-removal, including oil spill rehabilitation if necessary.
• Ensuring safe transportation and handling, with Eskom responsible for identifying the units and providing safe access.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Adherence to Eskom’s safety, health, and environmental standards, including compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) No 85 of 1993.
• Provision of certified plant, machinery, and qualified labor for dismantling, handling, and transportation.
• Proper identification and identification of scrap units by Eskom.
• Oil management: any residual oil in the transformer becomes the property of the successful bidder, who is responsible for spill management and site rehabilitation.
• Completion of safety and environmental documentation prior to work commencement.
• Compliance with Eskom’s site access and safety protocols, including obtaining permits before work begins.
• Disposal and handling of hazardous materials, including oil, in accordance with environmental regulations.

The skills and capabilities required from the successful tenderer include:

• Proven technical capability and experience in dismantling and handling large electrical transformers and scrap materials.
• Ability to manage and process project quantities efficiently and safely.
• Knowledge of environmental and safety regulations related to hazardous waste and scrap disposal.
• Qualified and trained personnel with safety certifications.
• Availability of suitable certified plant, machinery, and transport equipment.
• Strong safety record and adherence to Eskom’s SHE (Safety, Health, Environment) standards.
• Capability to respond promptly to work instructions and complete tasks within specified timelines.
• Ability to manage oil spills and site cleanup effectively, ensuring minimal environmental impact.
