Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to identify and engage qualified research service providers to collaborate with the CSIR in the Radio Frequency (RF) Development Domain over a period of three years. The aim is to strengthen and advance the South African Defence Industry through research, development, and evaluation of RF technologies and systems.

Scope

The scope involves providing research services related to RF development, including antenna design, RF simulation, RF measurement, and evaluation of RF communication systems. The services will support CSIR’s projects in RF communications, UAV and satellite antenna systems, and RF propagation modeling. The engagement will be on a "as-and-when-required" basis over three years, with specific requirements outlined in RFQ documents for each task.

Technical Requirements

• Qualifications in electronic/electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in RF design, evaluation, and antenna development.
• Proficiency in RF simulation software such as Altair Feko, ANSYS HFSS, or equivalent.
• Ability to model and simulate:
  • HF communication systems (2.5 MHz to 30 MHz), including NVIS antennas.
  • RF propagation over sea surfaces, predicting RF link probabilities between specified locations across 3 MHz to 2.5 GHz.
  • UAV and satellite communication antenna systems for video links from sea vessels to satellites.
• Experience with RF measurement and post-study RF propagation measurements.
• Provision of relevant company profile or CV demonstrating capabilities.
• Provision of at least three contactable references.

Skills Requirements

• Expertise in antenna design, RF simulation, and RF measurement techniques.
• Strong analytical skills in RF system evaluation and modeling.
• Proficiency in RF simulation tools such as Altair Feko, ANSYS HFSS, or similar.
• Experience in RF propagation modeling and practical RF measurement post-studies.
• Ability to produce detailed RF simulation reports and measurement summaries.
• Effective communication skills and ability to provide technical references and documentation.
