Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to carry out comprehensive refurbishment of the personnel elevators installed on 7 Ship-to-Shore (STS) container cranes at Transnet Port Terminals, Pier 1, Durban. The refurbishment aims to restore full operational reliability, enhance safety standards, extend the service life of the elevators, and ensure secure access for crane operators, maintenance personnel, and emergency responders. This will contribute to improved crane uptime and overall terminal productivity.

Scope

The scope of work includes, but is not limited to:

• Conducting detailed inspections of existing elevator systems, including mechanical, electrical, and structural components, with documentation of findings.
• Mechanical repairs and replacements such as bearings, guide rollers, brake assemblies, load pins, and other mechanical parts.
• Electrical work including replacing limit switches, backup systems, timers, push buttons, relays, and upgrading electrical components.
• Modernization of control and safety systems, including installation of new emergency stop systems, siren systems, and safety devices.
• Full testing of the elevators under operational and load conditions, followed by certification and handover.
• Preparation and submission of project plans, safety measures, quality control procedures, and relevant certificates.
• Minimizing disruption to ongoing terminal operations and ensuring site safety and cleanliness during works.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements for the refurbishment include:

• Adherence to Transnet standards and specifications, including ISO 9001 certification, OEM material use, and safety standards.
• Provision of a comprehensive execution and quality control plan relevant to the scope of work.
• Warranty period of at least 12 months for workmanship and materials.
• Submission of valid technical and legal documentation, including Lift Technician Trade Certificates, ISO 9001 certificates, and safety certificates.
• Use of qualified personnel with relevant licenses and experience in elevator refurbishment.
• Provision of a detailed project plan per crane prior to commencement.
• Implementation of safety measures including PPE, site barricading, proper disposal of materials, and environmental compliance.
• Inspection rights reserved by Transnet to ensure quality workmanship and OEM material usage.
• Compliance with all applicable safety, electrical, and structural standards and regulations.
• Post-refurbishment testing, including load testing beyond rated capacity, and certification for safe operation.
