Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to gather relevant technical and commercial information regarding the potential use of alternative, environmentally friendly combustion sources to replace coal in Foskor’s existing six phosphate dryers. The information will support Foskor in assessing the feasibility of retrofitting the dryers for alternative fuels such as natural gas, biodiesel, biomass, waste oil, methanol, hydrogen, or ammonia. This process aims to inform future project planning, including a possible subsequent Request for Proposal (RFP).

Scope

The scope of this RFI includes:

• Provision of technical and commercial information on alternative combustion sources suitable for Foskor’s six existing rotary dryers.
• Assessment of current infrastructure and equipment to support retrofitting for alternative fuels.
• Estimation of scope and costs for:
• Technical assessment of the existing dryers.
• Retrofitting the dryers for alternative fuels such as natural gas, biodiesel, methanol, and hydrogen/ammonia.
• Cost-benefit analysis covering operating costs, maintenance, and carbon tax liabilities.
• Evaluation of regulatory, health and safety, environmental, and quality considerations impacting the transition.
• Assessment of the efficacy of alternative fuels, including drying rates and outlet moisture.
• Provision of other relevant information pertinent to the feasibility of alternative fuel use.

Note: Phase 2 will involve a detailed assessment based on the outcomes of this RFI, but such detailed information is not required at this stage.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Supporting empirical data and factsheets substantiating all technical parameters.
• Assessment of the current infrastructure of six rotary dryers, including parts, utilities, electrical, structural, and mechanical aspects.
• Estimation of costs for technical assessment and retrofit of the dryers.
• Evaluation of operating costs, consumption rates, and necessary permits or certifications for retrofit and operation.
• Development of a high-level project plan and schedule for both assessment and retrofit activities.
• Provision of any additional technical information deemed necessary by the respondent.

Skills Requirements

The respondent should possess:

• Expertise in alternative fuel technologies and retrofit engineering for rotary dryers.
• Experience in conducting technical assessments and cost analyses for industrial drying equipment.
• Knowledge of environmental, health and safety regulations related to combustion sources.
• Capability to provide empirical data, technical documentation, and feasibility studies.
• Project planning and management skills to outline schedules and permit requirements.
• Strong communication skills for detailed reporting and engagement with Foskor’s procurement team.
