Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure services for the refurbishment of the F4 tank, specifically the provision and installation of 5mm thick butyl rubber lining (double layer) on the tank shell and floor, as well as the installation of acid brick lining on the tank floor up to 1 meter high. The project aims to restore the tank to good condition, ensuring safety, durability, and compliance with relevant standards.

Additionally, the tender seeks to establish a partnership with a qualified supplier capable of delivering quality services that align with Foskor’s operational and safety standards, while supporting environmental commitments and promoting local economic development through B-BBEE compliance.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Supply and installation of a double layer of 5mm thick cured butyl rubber on the tank shell (including roof and entire floor, excluding the actual roof).
• Installation of acid brick lining on the entire tank floor and shell up to a height of 1 meter.
• Preparation activities such as stripping old bricks and rubber, surface buffing, grinding, abrasive blasting to achieve a specified surface profile, and surface preparation for adhesion.
• Storage of rubber in an air-conditioned environment until installation.
• Provision of all necessary materials, equipment, and qualified personnel to execute the refurbishment safely and efficiently.
• Compliance with environmental, safety, and quality standards, including documentation and quality control packs.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify:

• Use of 5mm thick, pre-cured, double-layered butyl rubber with a Shore hardness of 50A.
• Application of rubber in two layers with proper surface preparation, including abrasive blasting to achieve a surface profile of 50-100 microns (SA2½ or SA3).
• Installation of 65mm thick carbon bricks on the tank floor and shell up to 1 meter height.
• Surface preparation involving buffing, grinding, and abrasive blasting to ensure maximum adhesion.
• Storage conditions for rubber to preserve its quality.
• Adherence to safety, environmental, and quality standards, including certification and documentation such as site inspection certificates, safety certificates, and quality control packs.

Skills and Competencies Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Proven experience in rubber lining and brick installation in industrial tanks, with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
• Capability to supply and install rubber linings and brick linings in accordance with specified standards and project requirements.
• Qualified and trained personnel, including certified safety officers and experienced technicians.
• Ability to perform surface preparation, abrasive blasting, and application of lining materials according to technical specifications.
• Compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, including the ability to provide necessary certifications and documentation.
• Capacity to manage project timelines, quality assurance, and documentation, including site inspections and quality control packs.
• Knowledge of environmental commitments, waste management, and local procurement policies, including B-BBEE compliance.
