Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure French (African dialect) translation and interpretation services to support the Youth Futures Portfolio in Senegal. The services aim to facilitate accurate communication, translation, transcription, and interpretation of research materials, meetings, and stakeholder engagement activities, ensuring high-quality linguistic support for project implementation and knowledge exchange.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Translation of written materials from French (including Senegalese dialects) into English and vice versa, such as interview guides, questionnaires, consent forms, transcripts, research reports, and communication materials.
• Provision of real-time interpretation during virtual and in-person meetings, workshops, and conferences.
• Translation and transcription of recorded interviews, focus group discussions, and other research data from French into English.
• Translation for subtitling video materials, including digital stories and social media content.
• Ensuring translation accuracy while maintaining socio-cultural and academic nuances.
• Collaborating with HSRC researchers to ensure terminology consistency and contextual relevance.
• Adhering to confidentiality and ethical standards in handling research data.
• Utilizing MS OneDrive for sharing materials and possessing a Premium Microsoft Teams license for meetings.

Technical Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in translation and interpretation between English and French, with preference for African francophone dialects, especially Senegalese French influence.
• Proven experience translating academic and social science research materials.
• Familiarity with terminology related to youth, employment, education, and socio-economic development.
• Capacity to provide transcription and subtitling services.
• Ability to maintain accuracy, tone, and context in translations, ensuring readability and cultural sensitivity.
• Technical capacity to deliver transcription and subtitling services.
• Confidentiality and ethical standards compliance.
• Availability and responsiveness to meet project timelines.
• Provision of a valid MS Teams Premium license proof.

Skills Requirements

• Professional experience in translation and interpretation, particularly in social sciences or development contexts, with at least three years of relevant experience.
• Experience translating academic and research materials, with a focus on social science terminology.
• Knowledge of youth, work, education, and socio-economic development terminology.
• Technical skills in transcription and subtitling.
• Strong understanding of Senegalese and West African dialects and cultural nuances.
• Ability to produce high-quality, accurate translations and interpretations under tight deadlines.
• Responsiveness, confidentiality, and professionalism in handling sensitive research data.
