Overall Objectives

Scope of Work

The scope encompasses comprehensive activities related to occupational health and safety management and fire detection system provision. For OHS, it involves conducting risk assessments (baseline and issue-based), managing hazards across diverse environments (plant, water bodies, tunnels, remote areas), implementing safety controls, inspections, environmental hazard management, substance abuse screening, and developing safety documentation and training programs. For fire detection, it covers evaluating suppliers’ technical capabilities, quality management systems, documentation, and compliance with standards, including installation, maintenance, and performance monitoring of fire detection systems, particularly Ziton-based systems.

Technical Requirements

Occupational Health and Safety

• Implementation of structured risk assessment processes using approved templates for hazard identification and control.
• Regular inspections, audits, and monitoring of equipment, work practices, and environmental conditions, utilizing calibrated testing and inspection tools.
• Development of safe work procedures, method statements, and emergency response protocols aligned with legal and Eskom standards.
• Provision and maintenance of PPE, safety signage, and environmental controls for hazards such as water bodies, terrain, wildlife, and weather.
• Management of occupational hygiene factors including noise, heat, biological, chemical, and ergonomic stressors, along with incident reporting and investigation.

Fire Detection System

• Assessment of supplier experience, particularly with Ziton-based fire detection systems, and their ability to deliver compliant, reliable services.
• Verification of adherence to standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 10005, and Eskom-specific specifications through documentation review.
• Evaluation of quality management systems, including Quality Control Plans (QCP), Inspection and Test Plans (ITP), and certifications.
• Assessment of risk management, environmental controls, and safety protocols related to installation, testing, and maintenance activities.
• Ensuring compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations, including gas testing and confined space procedures.
