Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure qualified service providers to install mosaic wall tiling at the Duiker Street, Struisbaai Beach Shower Facility (walls only). The aim is to enhance the facility's functionality and aesthetic appeal, ensure compliance with national building standards and Blue Flag Programme requirements, and improve the overall professional appearance of the beach area.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Removal and safe disposal of existing wall tiles.
• Supply, delivery, preparation, and installation of new mosaic tiles on the shower facility walls (approx. 15m²).
• Integration of custom mosaic artwork featuring the word “Struisbaai” (minimum letter height 150mm) and a stylised lighthouse motif (approx. 1.0m high).
• Ensuring all work complies with Blue Flag standards, environmental regulations, and safety requirements.

The works also involve preparing a mock-up panel for approval, using durable, saltwater and UV-resistant tiles, and applying suitable adhesives, epoxy grout, and sealants to ensure long-term durability and hygiene.

Technical Requirements

• Use of porcelain, glass, or ceramic mosaic tiles, approximately 25mm × 25mm or 50mm × 50mm sheets, minimum 6mm thick, with water absorption ≤ 0.5% (EN 14411).
• Adhesive: High-performance polymer-modified cementitious adhesive resistant to moisture, salts, and thermal expansion.
• Grout: Epoxy or polymer-modified cement grout with anti-mould and anti-stain properties.
• Sealant: Flexible, waterproof, UV-stable sealant for joints and movement areas.
• Artwork: Pre-mounted sheets where possible, with colours and layout approved via mock-up.
• Work must meet Blue Flag standards, including durability, safety, and environmental criteria.

Skills Requirements

• Experience in installing mosaic wall tiles in wet and coastal environments.
• Proficiency in surface preparation, tile adhesion, grouting, and sealing techniques suitable for heavy wet areas.
• Ability to prepare and execute custom mosaic artwork, including design approval processes.
• Knowledge of environmental and safety standards, particularly Blue Flag criteria.
• Capability to conduct mock-up testing and obtain client approval prior to full installation.
• Competence in project management, including site safety, quality control, and timely completion.
