Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to secure a contractor responsible for the maintenance of glazing works at OR Tambo International Airport. The goal is to ensure the infrastructure remains serviceable, safe, and compliant with relevant safety, aviation, and legal standards, while minimizing operating and maintenance costs and supporting continuous improvement in system reliability.

Scope

The scope encompasses comprehensive maintenance of glazing works across various airport buildings and assets, including but not limited to the administration buildings, cargo facilities, freight warehouses, fire station, and remote sites. The contractor will be responsible for all maintenance activities, ensuring standards set by OEMs and applicable laws are met, providing skilled staff, managing spares and tools, and adhering to airport security and safety protocols. The scope also includes managing permits, safety compliance, environmental considerations, and reporting requirements throughout the 12-month contract period.

Technical Requirements

• Maintenance of all glazing types including laminated safety glass, monolithic glazing, mirrors, and specialized glass (e.g., intruder-proof, shadowlite).
• Adherence to OEM standards and applicable legal and safety regulations.
• Provision of skilled personnel with appropriate qualifications and experience in glazing works.
• Use of approved tools, equipment, and materials, ensuring OEM warranties are maintained.
• Implementation of scheduled and reactive maintenance, inspections, and defect repairs within specified response times.
• Compliance with airport security, fire safety, health, and environmental regulations, including permit management and safety procedures.
• Effective management of spares, tools, and equipment, including storage, inventory control, and disposal of redundant items.
• Reporting on maintenance activities, incidents, and compliance, with documentation maintained for audit purposes.
• Participation in safety meetings, training, and emergency procedures as per airport standards.

Skills and Skills Requirements

• Proven experience in glazing maintenance, refurbishment, or installation projects, with references and project documentation.
• Qualified personnel including site managers, supervisors, glaziers, and technicians with relevant certifications (e.g., trade certificates, OHS training).
• Knowledge of OEM standards, safety regulations, and legal compliance related to glazing works and airport operations.
• Ability to manage and operate specialized tools and equipment, including scaffolding, glazing tools, and safety gear.
• Competence in planning, scheduling, and executing maintenance activities within specified response and completion times.
• Strong understanding of environmental and safety management systems, including hazard identification, risk assessments, and incident reporting.
• Effective communication skills for coordination with airport authorities, safety teams, and stakeholders.
• Capacity to manage inventory, procurement, and subcontractors where applicable.
