Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure a service provider to deliver cleaning services for a period of three (3) months at Transnet Port Terminals (TPT), specifically at Richards Bay. The aim is to ensure effective cleaning of designated areas, including spillages, operational zones, and stockpiles, to support smooth port operations, safety, and environmental compliance.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Provision of cleaning services over a three-month period at Richards Bay Terminal.
• Cleaning of conveyor belts, stockpiles (coal, chrome, pig iron, ferro, manganese), sheds, quaysides, weighbridges, and drainage areas.
• Responding promptly to cleaning requests from technical and operational managers.
• Cleaning spillages and waste from various commodities and operational zones as per instructions.
• Adherence to safety, health, and environmental regulations during all activities.
• Provision of necessary tools, PPE, and personnel as specified.
• Conducting risk assessments prior to work commencement.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Provision of 60 trained personnel (57 general workers and 3 supervisors).
• Availability of tools such as shovels, heavy-duty brooms, wheelbarrows, etc., in specified quantities.
• Adherence to safety standards, including PPE, hazard identification, and safety signage.
• Compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation, including OHSA, Hazardous Substances Regulations, COVID-19 regulations, and port-specific laws.
• Implementation of safety protocols, risk assessments, and emergency procedures.
• Timely response to cleaning requests and flexibility to adjust team sizes based on operational demands.
• Use of approved cleaning methods and equipment suitable for port environments.

Skills Requirements

The tender specifies the following skills and qualifications:

• Experience in industrial cleaning, particularly within port or plant environments.
• Ability to respond swiftly and effectively to cleaning requests.
• Knowledge of safety procedures, hazard identification, and PPE usage.
• Capacity to conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures.
• Availability of trained personnel with relevant safety and operational certifications.
• Proficiency in maintaining cleanliness standards in high-dust, high-salinity environments.
• Capability to manage and operate cleaning tools and equipment as specified.
