Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure pest control services, including fumigation, across all correctional centres within the Durban Management Area, specifically targeting facilities in Durban and Umzinto. The aim is to ensure effective pest management through a comprehensive service program that addresses various pests such as cockroaches, ants, moths, bed lice, fleas, mosquitoes, flies, and rodents, maintaining hygiene and safety standards in correctional facilities.

Scope

The scope encompasses:

• Provision of pest control and fumigation services at multiple correctional centres and associated facilities in Durban and Umzinto.
• Regular pest management activities including quarterly, bi-annual, and special treatments as specified.
• Services covering high-risk areas such as kitchens, stores, refuse areas, and recreational facilities.
• Rodent control using cardboard stations and baiting systems.
• Termite and white ant treatment with a five-year warranty.
• Maintenance and servicing of specific areas including kitchens, staff residences, community corrections offices, and other designated zones.
• Adherence to specified standards, safety, and environmental requirements.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Compliance with the attached service specifications and standards approved by the Department of Correctional Services.
• Use of approved pest control methods such as gel baits, strategic spraying, granular baits, and electric fly catchers.
• Provision of maintenance services for pest control equipment, including monthly, quarterly, and bi-annual treatments.
• Implementation of pest control in high-risk areas and main kitchens, with specific treatment frequencies and methods.
• Provision of detailed service reports, inspection records, and compliance documentation.
• Adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations, including registration with relevant authorities (e.g., Department of Agriculture).

Skills and Competency Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate:

• Registration and good standing with the South African Pest Control Association (SAPCA) and compliance with the Agriculture Pest Act or equivalent legislation.
• Valid certification and licensing for pest control operations.
• Experience in managing pest control services within correctional or similar institutional environments.
• Capability to supply and service specialized pest control equipment such as bait stations and electric fly catchers.
• Ability to provide qualified personnel trained in pest management, safety procedures, and environmental compliance.
• Financial stability and capacity to undertake the scope of work as specified.
• Provision of references and evidence of previous successful contracts of similar scale and complexity.
