Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to commission a service provider to conduct a comprehensive structural analysis of the Gamagara River Bridge near Sishen Railway Station. This includes investigations into the current condition of the bridge, designing necessary strengthening measures, and providing construction supervision over a period of four months.

Scope

The scope of work encompasses:

• Geotechnical investigations to assess bearing capacity and foundation conditions.
• Analysis of the existing bridge to evaluate load capacity for current and future axle loads.
• Design of strengthening solutions based on analysis outcomes.
• Preparation of construction drawings and bills of quantities.
• Compilation of design reports and investigation reports.
• Supervision of construction activities, including normal and after-hours supervision, travel, and accommodation arrangements.
• Testing of materials such as concrete cubes and handover documentation including as-built drawings and certificates.

The work is specifically for the bridge section between km 265/11 and 265/12.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Conducting geotechnical investigations to verify foundation conditions.
• Performing structural analysis of the existing bridge for axle loads of 20 and 26 tons.
• Designing bridge strengthening solutions with detailed drawings and reports.
• Providing construction supervision, including travel and accommodation logistics.
• Material testing and documentation, including as-built drawings and reports.
• Compliance with safety, security, and security clearance requirements.
• Adherence to specifications outlined in Annexure A and the Price Schedule.

Skills and Experience Requirements

The bidder must demonstrate:

• Previous experience in conducting structural analysis and strengthening of river bridges or similar structures, with award letters for relevant projects.
• Experience with bridge or culvert analysis and repair design, with a minimum length of 15 meters and a span of at least 5 meters.
• At least 10 years of professional experience in analysis and strengthening or repair design for bridges.
• Qualified personnel with professional registration with ECSA, including a lead designer with relevant civil engineering qualifications (NQF 7).
• Capability to provide detailed project management arrangements, including CVs of key personnel involved.
• Proven ability to deliver within the four-month timeframe.
