Objectives, Scope and Technical Requirements of the Tender

Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a qualified contractor to undertake the construction of Marikana Road (D1325) within the Marikana Central Business District. The project aims to rehabilitate approximately 2.139 km of road, including sidewalks, drainage systems, and associated infrastructure, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and safety regulations. The contractor is expected to facilitate community participation, ensure quality workmanship, and adhere to environmental and safety standards throughout the project duration.

Scope

The scope of work encompasses the following key activities:

• Site clearance, establishment, and demarcation
• Bulk earthworks, including excavation, compaction, and grading
• Construction of road layers: in-situ road bed, selected layers, stabilized subbase, asphalt surfacing
• Construction of 2m wide sidewalks, installation of kerbs, stormwater pipes, manholes, and inlets
• Provision of temporary works, including shoring, scaffolding, and safety measures
• Installation of drainage systems, culverts, and related infrastructure
• Provision of site facilities, including offices, storage, ablution facilities, and security arrangements
• Compliance with environmental management and occupational health and safety regulations
• Coordination with existing services and utilities, including locating, protecting, and reinstating services
• Testing, commissioning, and handover of completed infrastructure

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify adherence to relevant standards, safety, and environmental regulations, including but not limited to:

• Compliance with South African National Standards (SANS) such as SANS 1200 series for civil works
• CIDB grading of 7CE or higher, CIDB registration and good standing
• Provision of a detailed health and safety plan, including risk assessments, method statements, and emergency procedures
• Use of approved materials, including sulphate-resistant cement, quality aggregates, and durable asphalt
• Design and construction of formwork, reinforcement, and structural elements in accordance with SABS standards
• Installation of drainage, stormwater, and sewer systems as per approved drawings and standards
• Use of qualified and competent personnel for supervision, safety, and technical tasks
• Provision of adequate site facilities, including offices, storage, and safety equipment
• Implementation of environmental management plans and waste disposal procedures
• Regular inspections, testing, and certification of equipment, machinery, and works
• Monitoring and reporting on occupational health and safety compliance, incidents, and hazards

All activities must be performed in accordance with the specifications, drawings, and applicable legislation to ensure safety, quality, and environmental sustainability throughout the project lifecycle.
