Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure services for the refurbishment and repair of Low Voltage (LV) motors at Matimba Power Station over a period of five years. The aim is to ensure reliable, compliant, and high-quality refurbishment and repair services that meet Eskom’s standards and technical requirements.

Scope

The scope encompasses the refurbishment, repair, testing, and certification of LV motors associated with Matimba Power Station. It includes activities such as disassembly, inspection, repair, reassembly, testing, quality assurance, transportation, and documentation. The scope also covers the management of subcontractors, suppliers, and sub-suppliers involved in the process, as well as adherence to safety, environmental, and quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Technical Requirements

• Compliance with ISO 9001 quality management standards, either certified or documented evidence of a compliant QMS.
• Adherence to specific standards such as ISO 1940-1:2003 for rotor balance, IEC standards for electrical machines, and vibration severity standards.
• Provision of a comprehensive Contract Quality Plan, including inspection and test plans, quality control procedures, and documentation control.
• Use of approved bearings (e.g., NTN, SKF, RHP, Timken) and proper handling, cleaning, and assembly procedures.
• Implementation of vibration analysis, crack testing, shaft alignment, and other non-destructive testing methods.
• Provision of detailed repair, refurbishment, and testing methodologies, including safety, environmental, and quality controls.
• Timely delivery of refurbished motors with documented test results, warranties, and compliance certificates.
• Transport and handling in accordance with Eskom standards, ensuring safety and integrity of motors during movement.
• Adherence to Eskom’s safety, environmental, and quality policies, including SHEQ performance targets.

Skills Requirements

• Qualified personnel with certifications and experience in electrical motor refurbishment, vibration analysis, shaft alignment, and non-destructive testing.
• Personnel with SAQA-recognized qualifications in electrical engineering, fitting, turning, vibration analysis, and related fields.
• Experience in managing subcontractors, external suppliers, and sub-suppliers, including quality and performance monitoring.
• Capability to develop and implement detailed inspection, testing, and quality control plans aligned with ISO standards.
• Competence in handling safety, health, and environmental compliance, including asbestos management and hazardous materials handling where applicable.
• Proficiency in documentation management, including quality records, inspection reports, test certificates, and technical assurance documentation.
• Ability to coordinate logistics, transportation, and delivery of refurbished motors within Eskom’s standards and timelines.
• Skills in project management, including planning, scheduling, and reporting, supported by relevant tools and methodologies.
