Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to engage a qualified occupational health medical practitioner to conduct medical surveillance for the employees of Tokologo Local Municipality over a period of three years. The goal is to promote and maintain the highest standards of physical, mental, and social well-being of workers, in line with the Occupational Health and Safety Act. The practitioner will play a key role in reducing disease and injury incidence, alleviating suffering, and protecting workers' health throughout their employment lifecycle.

Scope

The scope includes providing occupational health services such as health assessments, medical examinations, and health surveillance for all municipal workers within the jurisdiction, including Boshof, Dealesville, and Hertzogville. The services must be delivered annually, covering procedures like questionnaires, medical record reviews, physiological tests, and consultation. The service provider must also maintain all necessary equipment, conduct assessments at designated locations or mobile clinics, and submit detailed reports with findings and recommendations within 14 days of each assessment.

The project duration is three years, with the service provider expected to travel within the municipality, provide emergency consultations, and ensure confidentiality and compliance with relevant health regulations.

Technical Requirements

• Must hold a medical degree (MBCHB) and a Bachelor/BTech in Occupational Health and Safety.
• Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in Occupational Health, with experience in at least three institutions.
• Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA); registration with SASOM is advantageous.
• Ability to conduct comprehensive health assessments, including audiometry, spirometry, vision screening, and other relevant examinations.
• Provision and maintenance of all necessary occupational health assessment equipment.
• Submission of detailed medical surveillance reports within 14 days post-assessment.
• Availability for emergency consultations and mobile clinic operations.
• Travel to designated areas within the municipality is required.

Skills Requirements

• Qualified medical practitioner with a valid HPCSA registration.
• Proven experience in occupational health services, with at least 3-5 years in the field.
• Ability to perform and interpret various health assessments and tests.
• Strong report writing and communication skills for detailed health assessments and recommendations.
• Competence in operating occupational health assessment equipment.
• Ability to work independently, travel within the municipality, and respond to emergency health needs.
• Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation and confidentiality protocols.
