Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to undertake the renovation and electrical upgrade of the Manapo Laboratory at Manapo Hospital in the Free State. This includes the supply, installation, and commissioning of electrical systems and components to ensure a modern, safe, and compliant laboratory environment.

Scope

The scope of work encompasses:

• Supply and installation of electrical infrastructure, including power supply cables from the main distribution board to laboratory distribution boards.
• Provision of electrical materials and equipment of the highest quality, compliant with relevant standards.
• Installation of low voltage distribution cables, socket outlets, lighting fixtures, and wiring channels.
• Implementation of lighting systems, including emergency lighting with self-diagnostic features.
• Installation of occupancy controllers for lighting and air-conditioning units.
• Conduit installation, wiring, and distribution board setup with proper discrimination and cascading.
• Lightning protection system installation, including earth resistivity testing and certification.
• Installation of communication infrastructure such as telephone, data, CCTV, access control, and radio wiring pathways.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include adherence to the latest editions of relevant standards such as SANS, IEC, and BS. Key requirements are:

• Use of copper conductors, PVC insulated, steel wire armoured cables rated at 600/1000V.
• Installation of distribution boards with a minimum fault level rating and compliance with SANS 10142-1.
• Proper labeling and identification of all electrical panels and distribution boards.
• Surface-mounted conduits only with prior approval, using hot-dipped galvanized steel conduits where permitted.
• Wiring channels must be galvanized steel with complete cover plates.
• Lighting fixtures must be approved, with emergency fittings being self-diagnostic and wired to a dedicated emergency circuit.
• Implementation of occupancy sensors and controllers with specified delay times for lighting and air-conditioning units.
• Lightning protection system designed and installed by a specialist contractor, with certification and as-built drawings provided.
• Communication wiring pathways for telephone, data, CCTV, access control, and radio systems, with cabling by others.

Skills Requirements

The contractor must demonstrate:

• Proven experience in electrical installations for laboratory and hospital environments.
• Capability to interpret and implement detailed electrical specifications and drawings.
• Compliance with all relevant standards and codes, including SANS, IEC, and BS.
• Ability to coordinate with building contractors for conduit installation and surface mounting approvals.
• Provision of quality assurance through test certificates, certificates of compliance, and detailed as-built documentation.
• Expertise in lightning protection systems, including earth resistivity testing and certification.
• Capacity to supply and install specialized equipment such as occupancy controllers, surge protection devices, and communication infrastructure.
