Objectives

The primary objectives of the tender are to select a competent contractor to repair the storm water pipe at the High Voltage (HV) Yard at Duvha Power Station for a duration of five months, ensuring the work is executed safely, in compliance with technical and environmental standards, and within the specified timeframe.

Additional objectives include ensuring adherence to Eskom’s safety, health, environmental, and quality (SHEQ) policies, promoting transformation and local content, and achieving contractual obligations related to B-BBEE and local procurement goals.

Scope

The scope covers the repair of storm water pipes and associated structures in the HV yard, including:

• Assessment and removal of corroded concrete sections within the sump and stormwater pipe encasements.
• Application of high-strength non-shrink grouting to corroded areas.
• Rehabilitation of the sump walls, floor, and pipe joints using specified concrete mixes.
• Drainage of seepage outside the sump and filling of sinkholes underneath.
• Demolition of existing isolation walls and brickwork, and reinstatement of concrete and brick structures.
• Construction of access roads, surfacing, and drainage systems as per detailed specifications.
• Water pumping, GPR scanning, and other preparatory works necessary for safe execution.

The work is limited to Duvha Power Station premises and involves earthworks, concrete repairs, coating, grouting, and site reinstatement.

Technical Requirements

• Compliance with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems and relevant standards (SANS, SATS).
• Application of specified concrete mixes (30 MPa, stabilized with 3% cement), acid-resistant coatings, and non-shrink grouting.
• Proper planning and execution of excavation, demolition, and construction activities in accordance with SANS 2001 standards and Construction Regulations.
• Development and approval of detailed method statements, construction plans, and risk assessments prior to works.
• Use of qualified personnel for all repair, grouting, and construction activities, with records maintained.
• Implementation of safety, health, and environmental controls, including asbestos management, waste handling, and site safety protocols.
• Water management, seepage control, and soil stabilization measures to prevent environmental impact.
• Adherence to Eskom’s SHEQ policies, environmental standards, and legal compliance requirements.
• Provision of quality control plans, inspection and test plans, and documentation for all works.

Skills and Skills Requirements

• Qualified civil and structural engineers with experience in concrete repairs, grouting, and earthworks.
• Personnel with certifications in occupational health and safety (SAMTRAC, ISO 45001) and asbestos management (AAIA accreditation).
• Experienced project managers with at least 5 years in construction projects, including planning, scheduling, and site supervision.
• Skilled technicians for GPR scanning, water pumping, and concrete application.
• Qualified inspectors and quality controllers familiar with ISO 9001, SATS 1286, and SANS standards.
• Environmental officers with expertise in waste management, asbestos handling, and environmental impact assessments.
• Trained personnel for safety, emergency response, and site security management.
