Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to gather information and market insights to support Eskom’s initiative of repurposing Kriel Power Station as part of its Just Energy Transition (JET) strategy. The focus is on developing projects that facilitate cleaner energy production, community reskilling, and diversification into sectors such as manufacturing, steel fabrication, agriculture, and more. The tender aims to identify potential partners and innovative solutions that can contribute to the sustainable transformation of the power station and its surrounding areas.

Scope

The scope encompasses:

• Providing information on initiatives related to repurposing Kriel Power Station, including but not limited to re-skilling communities, cleaner energy projects, manufacturing, steel fabrication, agriculture, cooling and refrigeration, and alien vegetation removal.
• Supporting Eskom in developing new projects that align with the JET vision, potentially including proposals outside the predefined list of initiatives.
• Sharing capabilities, past project experience, and current operational licenses relevant to the proposed initiatives.
• Engaging in market testing to gauge the feasibility, capacity, and potential risks associated with proposed projects.

Technical Requirements

Respondents are expected to provide detailed technical information, including:

• Evidence of current and historical capability in business development and project execution related to repurposing initiatives.
• Details of existing services, production facilities, and project experience, supported by proof of past projects.
• Operational licenses and permits relevant to the proposed activities, along with any additional licensing requirements.
• Utilities requirements such as electricity, water, and gas for the proposed projects.
• Estimated number of full-time jobs (FTE) to be created, with breakdowns of local community involvement and indicative pricing.
• Market outlook and potential for the proposed initiatives.
• Financial standing, including annual turnover over the past five years and the capacity to raise finance.
• Security and risk management considerations.
• Minimum operational space requirements, lead times for establishing facilities, and SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) requirements.
• Any other relevant information or requirements necessary for the successful implementation of the projects.
