Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to decommission, supply, install, test, and commission new Electric Air Circuit Breakers (ACBs) to replace obsolete equipment within the LV substation at Durban Station. The goal is to restore safe, compliant, and reliable operation, eliminate obsolete equipment, and ensure full compliance with current standards.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Decommissioning and removal of existing Merlin Gerin Master Pacts ACBs along with mounting racks.
• Preparation for new ACB installation, including busbar interface adaptation.
• Supply and delivery of compatible Electric Air Circuit Breakers (ACBs) of Masterpact MTZ series, draw-out type, with specified ratings (2000A, 2500A, 3200A).
• Installation of new ACBs, mechanical key interlocking, and associated modifications to switchboard compartments.
• Testing, commissioning, and documentation, including factory and site acceptance tests.
• Compliance with IEC 60947-2, SANS 60947, and SANS 10142 standards.
• Work shall be performed after 10 PM on weekends to minimize disruptions.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Use of Masterpact MTZ series, draw-out type ACBs with a minimum rating of 2000A, 2500A, and 3200A.
• ACBs fitted with Micrologic X electronic trip units with earth fault protection where required.
• Mechanical trapped-key interlocking compatible with Masterpact MTZ breakers.
• Existing switchboard compartments to be reused where possible, with full insulation and shrouding of live parts.
• Adherence to safety and quality standards during installation and testing.
• Perform factory and site acceptance testing, insulation resistance tests, and functional demonstrations.
• Provide comprehensive documentation, test certificates, and handover manuals.

Skills Requirements

The bidder must demonstrate:

• Experience in electrical construction projects involving LV switchgear and ACB replacements, with at least three reference projects.
• Qualified personnel including:
• At least one Master Installation Electrician with a minimum of 5 years’ experience post-qualification.
• Two trade-tested electricians with at least 5 years’ experience post-qualification.
• Proof of relevant qualifications, CVs, and licenses.
• Compliance with safety standards and the ability to perform testing, commissioning, and documentation.
• Capacity to work during specified night hours and manage site modifications with minimal disruption.
