Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to establish a Fire Equipment Works Maintenance Contract at various MLPs stations and sites in the Mpumalanga Region, specifically Segment 2 (Standerton Station), for a period of 12 months. The contract aims to ensure the proper inspection, maintenance, refurbishment, and supply of fire safety equipment to ensure compliance with safety standards and legislation.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Performing repairs, inspections, maintenance, refurbishments, and new supply and installation of fire safety equipment at designated sites in Mpumalanga Segment 2.
• Specific focus on fire extinguishers, hydrants, fire hoses, tanks, and related fire safety infrastructure.
• Refurbishment and certification of fire extinguishers, including hydrostatic pressure testing and re-sealing.
• Supply and installation of new fire safety equipment such as extinguishers, hose reels, hydrant caps, and signage.
• Compliance with relevant standards such as SABS 1475, SABS 1456, NFPA 30, NFPA 30A, NFPA 31, and other applicable legislation.
• Provision of safety documentation, site registers, and adherence to health and safety regulations.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Certification of suppliers and technicians with relevant industry bodies such as SAQCC, PFA, FFETA, and FDIA.
• Use of SABS 1475 certified fire extinguishers and equipment.
• Refurbishment procedures including internal inspection, valve checks, weighing, reconditioning, re-sealing, calibration, certification, and hydrostatic testing.
• Supply and installation of various fire safety equipment with specified dimensions, materials, and standards.
• Hydrostatic testing of cylinders and pressure testing of extinguishers according to SANAS standards.
• Provision of safety files, risk assessments, and compliance with COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
• Proper documentation including certificates, inspection reports, and maintenance logs.

Skills Requirements

The tender requires bidders to possess:

• Qualified Fire Technicians with proof of certifications and experience in fire safety maintenance.
• Capacity to work on multiple sites simultaneously with adequate staffing and resources.
• Knowledge of relevant standards such as SABS, NFPA, and local legislation.
• Ability to prepare and submit detailed reports, site registers, and maintenance documentation.
• Experience in refurbishing, testing, and installing fire safety equipment.
• Compliance with health and safety regulations, including COVID-19 protocols and safety file management.
• Proficiency in procurement, inventory management, and quality control of fire safety materials.
