Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure qualified training providers to deliver comprehensive basic firefighting training aligned with SAQA Unit Standard 12484. The training aims to equip participants with the skills, knowledge, and competence to select, use, and operate fire fighting equipment effectively to control or extinguish fires in the workplace. The training also emphasizes understanding fire chemistry, transmission methods, types of fires, and appropriate procedures for different fire scenarios.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Delivering a 2-day training program combining theoretical instruction and practical hands-on exercises.
• Covering modules such as fire identification, fire chemistry, transmission methods, types of fires, fire prevention, and firefighting procedures.
• Providing practical firefighting exercises at either the provider’s venue or at the PRASA Culemborg Long Distance Train Maintenance Depot, with costs borne by the provider.
• Ensuring training is targeted at individuals responsible for managing various types of fires, including those involving organic materials, flammable liquids, electrical equipment, and combustible metals.
• Issuing accredited certificates upon successful completion.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements for the training provider include:

• Accreditation with SAQA under Unit Standard 12484, verified by the relevant SETA.
• Provision of comprehensive training modules as specified, including theoretical and practical components.
• Provision of fire fighting equipment and materials for practical exercises.
• Delivery of training in a controlled environment with access to necessary fire fighting resources.
• Provision of training certificates accredited by SAQA.
• Costing for practical sessions, training materials, transportation, and catering (lunch).
• Compliance with SAQA and SETA standards, including safety and quality assurance.

Skills Requirements

The successful training provider must demonstrate:

• Accreditation and proven experience in delivering firefighting training aligned with SAQA Unit Standard 12484.
• Expertise in fire chemistry, types of fires, and firefighting procedures.
• Ability to conduct both classroom-based theoretical instruction and practical firefighting exercises.
• Qualified trainers, assessors, and moderators with relevant experience and accreditation.
• Capacity to prepare and deliver training materials and assessments.
• Ability to facilitate a safe and effective practical training environment.
• Strong organizational and logistical skills to manage training sessions, practical exercises, and certification processes.
