Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to engage a qualified Service Provider to act as an Approved Inspection Authority responsible for conducting comprehensive hygiene surveys and health risk assessments across various regions within KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). The services aim to identify potential health hazards, assess environmental and occupational risks, and ensure compliance with health and safety standards throughout the specified sites and departments.

Scope

The scope of the tender encompasses a wide range of occupational hygiene and health risk assessments across multiple departments and locations, including:

• Regional Office (Durban station and clinics)
• Rolling Stock (train sets, workshops, depots)
• Perway (track maintenance sites in Durban)
• Electrical and Signals departments
• Durban Yard and other train yards
• Customer Service stations
• Train Operations & DMOCC
• Protection Services & JOC
• Facilities (maintenance and support areas)
• Telecommunications sites

The services include conducting various assessments such as vibration, ergonomic, noise, air monitoring, water testing, heat stress, HBA swabs, lighting, and health risk assessments, among others, as detailed in the occupational hygiene BOQ.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements for the tender include:

• Provision of qualified personnel with expertise in occupational hygiene, environmental health, and safety assessments.
• Capability to perform laboratory sampling and testing, including air quality, water quality, asbestos, and biological swabs.
• Conducting surveys and assessments such as noise, vibration, ergonomic, heat stress, ventilation, lighting, and exposure to hazardous substances.
• Preparation of comprehensive reports, including a consolidated regional report, and delivering feedback sessions and strategy workshops.
• Ensuring all assessments are carried out in accordance with relevant health and safety standards and protocols.
• Clear indication of whether costs for laboratory analysis, travel, accommodation, calibration certificates, report writing, presentations, and feedback sessions are included in the quotation.

Skills Requirements

The successful Service Provider must demonstrate:

• Expertise in occupational hygiene and health risk assessments.
• Experience in conducting environmental sampling and laboratory testing.
• Proficiency in performing a variety of surveys including noise, vibration, ergonomic, heat stress, air quality, and biological swabs.
• Ability to interpret data and compile detailed reports and presentations.
• Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation and standards applicable to the various assessment areas.
• Strong project management and communication skills to facilitate feedback sessions and workshops.
• Capability to mobilize resources and personnel across multiple sites within the KZN region efficiently.
