The primary objective is to gather market intelligence regarding steep-area extraction solutions for forestry clearfell and thinning operations. This Request for Information (RFI) aims to identify viable technologies, products, and service providers to inform future procurement strategies. It seeks to enhance operational efficiency, improve worker safety in high-risk terrain, reduce dependency on limited specialist contractors, and support sustainable, financially viable forestry practices across SAFCOL’s plantation network.
This is strictly an RFI; no contracts or awards will be issued, and responses serve solely for market research and future tender development. Steep area extraction solutions refer to highly specialised forestry machinery engineered for extreme gradients, including excavator-mounted yarders, skyline/cable systems, and winch-assisted or tethered harvesters. These require precise load distribution, advanced anchoring, and minimal ground disturbance to prevent ecological damage and ensure operator safety. Total cost of ownership encompasses acquisition, delivery, training, ongoing maintenance, support labour, travel expenses, and flexible commercial models such as leasing or managed services. Strict adherence to South African preferential procurement regulations, including demographic scoring and anti-collusion declarations, applies.

Most large tenders are composed of tasks in a number of different fields, and it is not always possible for a single company to cater for all of them, and therefore Joint Ventures and Consortia are formed to then submit a tender together.
Government tenders are also requiring the subcontracting of a percentage of the tender work, and the trouble is then finding Subcontractors to comply with the tender requirements
To assist companies with finding tender partners and subcontractors, you can now submit your contact details and company information on this page, so other interested parties can contact you for purposes of forming Joint Ventures and subcontracting
You will need to supply your details on every tender you are interested in tendering for. For this you need an active Business Listing - Register and Login at My Account to create a Business Listing
