Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to conduct geotechnical investigations at the Tshitangadzimeni Heritage Site to facilitate the construction of various infrastructure elements, including an access road, amphitheatre, ablutions, monument, and interpretative stands. The investigations aim to assess soil and ground conditions prior to the design and construction phases.

Scope

The scope of work encompasses:

• Excavation of a minimum of 4 inspection pits with sampling and backfilling;
• Logging and profiling of soil profiles according to recognized standards;
• Installation of DCP probes at each inspection pit and additional probes as needed;
• Laboratory testing including grading, indicators, and CBR tests on disturbed samples;
• Percolation tests at lower lying areas of the site;
• Preparation of a comprehensive geotechnical report with findings, interpretations, and recommendations;
• Delivery of field investigations, laboratory analyses, and detailed reports.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Completion of soil profiling and sampling in accordance with South African standards;
• Use of appropriate field testing equipment such as DCP probes and percolation testing apparatus;
• Laboratory testing of samples for grading, CBR, and other geotechnical indicators;
• Provision of a detailed geotechnical investigation report covering site description, soil conditions, stability assessments, and foundation recommendations;
• Involvement of a registered geotechnical engineer with at least 3 years of experience in borehole development and soil investigations;
• Submission of all required deliverables within specified timeframes, including work plans, risk registers, and professional indemnity certificates.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Professional registration with ECSA or SACNASP as a Geotech Engineer (PrEng, PrTechEng, or Pr. Sci. Nat.);
• Minimum of 3 years post-registration experience in geotechnical investigations and soil testing projects;
• Ability to conduct field investigations, sampling, and testing in accordance with national standards;
• Capability to analyze geotechnical data and produce comprehensive technical reports with clear recommendations;
• Experience in working on infrastructure projects similar in scope and scale;
• Provision of qualified professionals and submission of CVs and registration certificates as part of the bid documentation.
