Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure services and/or equipment necessary to replace or repair the main switch in the generator box at SAPS-Viljoensdrift, which has burned out and is unable to supply power during load shedding. The aim is to restore reliable power supply during load shedding periods by addressing the burned main switch issue.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Assessment and diagnosis of the burned main switch in the generator box.
• Supply, installation, and commissioning of a new main switch suitable for the generator system.
• Testing to ensure the generator can supply power during load shedding.
• Removal of the faulty switch and disposal or recycling as appropriate.
• Documentation and certification of completion.

Additional scope may include site inspection, safety compliance, and ensuring the generator operates manually and automatically post-installation.

Technical Requirements

• The replacement main switch must be compatible with the existing generator system and meet all relevant standards (SABS, Public Works Standards).
• The switch must be capable of handling the load requirements and be rated appropriately for the generator's capacity.
• The installation must be performed by qualified electrical artisans or engineers with valid registration and compliance with electrical regulations.
• The work must include testing and commissioning to verify proper operation during load shedding.
• The contractor must provide proof of compliance with safety, electrical, and environmental standards.
• The solution should enable manual and automatic operation of the generator's power supply.

Skills and Skills Requirements

The tenderer must demonstrate the following skills and qualifications:

• Qualified electrical engineers or artisans with valid registration (e.g., Department of Employment and Labour registration as Electrical Contractor).
• Experience in installing and commissioning generator switchgear and related electrical systems, preferably in load shedding scenarios.
• Knowledge of relevant standards (SABS, Electrical Regulations 2009, Public Works Standards).
• Ability to conduct safe and compliant electrical installations and testing.
• Capability to provide documentation, certification, and warranties for the supplied equipment and work performed.
• Experience in site assessment, troubleshooting, and problem-solving related to generator power systems.
