Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure professional geotechnical services to conduct investigations at specified school sites affected by storm damage in Limpopo Province. The investigations aim to assess soil and ground conditions to support the design and construction of renovations, new buildings, and infrastructure such as stormwater management, sewer reticulation, and water supply systems.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Conducting geotechnical investigations involving excavation of inspection pits, sampling, logging, profiling, and laboratory testing.
• Preparing comprehensive geotechnical reports detailing site conditions, soil stability, potential problems, and recommendations for foundation design and construction.
• Reporting on specific sites including Given Mangolo Primary School, Rekhuditse Secondary School, and other storm-damaged schools in the Limpopo Province.
• Assessing existing structures for renovations, including foundation and wall stability evaluations.
• Delivering geotechnical zones plans, stability reports (including dolomitic areas if applicable), and detailed recommendations for foundation and ground use.
• Providing laboratory testing, topographical surveys, and field investigations as required.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements for the tender include:

• Engagement of qualified professionals, including a Principal Consultant registered with ECSA or SACNASP with over 3 years of geotechnical experience, and a registered surveyor with PRLSA or PR.S with relevant experience.
• Execution of field investigations: minimum of 4 inspection pits per site, sampling of at least 150kg per location, and backfilling with granular material.
• Logging and profiling of soil profiles according to recognized standards (e.g., SAIEG, SAICE, AEG guidelines).
• Use of DCP probes and laboratory testing including grading, CBR, and indicator tests on disturbed samples.
• Preparation of detailed geotechnical reports covering site description, regional geology, potential problems, ground water, excavability, and foundation suitability.
• Provision of deliverables such as investigation reports, geotechnical zones plan, stability assessments, and recommendations for foundation design.
• Adherence to project timeframes, including attendance at inception meetings and submission of work plans and risk registers.
• Pricing to include all fieldwork, laboratory testing, reporting, disbursements, and related activities, with no additional costs post-appointment.
