Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure professional geotechnical services for the assessment and investigation of soil and ground conditions at multiple school sites affected by storm damage in Limpopo Province. The services aim to support the design and construction of renovations, new buildings, and infrastructure such as stormwater systems, sewer reticulation, and water supply, ensuring safe and suitable foundations and ground conditions for the proposed developments.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Conducting geotechnical investigations at specified school sites (Maimela Primary, Mphaaneng Primary, Mokomene Primary, Mphaaneng, Mphaphaneng, Mokomone, and others).
• Excavation of inspection pits, sampling, logging, and profiling of soil strata.
• Laboratory testing of soil samples (grading, CBR, indicators, etc.).
• Preparation of detailed geotechnical reports covering site description, regional geology, soil stability, potential problems, ground water, and recommendations.
• Assessment of existing foundation conditions, stability of walls, and suitability of in-situ materials for reuse or backfill.
• Provision of geotechnical zones plans and stability reports, especially in dolomitic areas.
• Delivery of all investigations, reports, and recommendations within specified timeframes.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements for the tender include:

• Engagement of qualified professionals, including a Principal Geotechnical Engineer registered with ECSA or SACNASP with at least 3 years post-registration experience, and a registered surveyor with relevant experience.
• Provision of a comprehensive project workplan, programme, and risk register within five (5) working days of appointment.
• Carrying out field investigations involving excavation of inspection pits, soil sampling, logging, and geophysical profiling.
• Laboratory testing of soil samples for grading, CBR, and other geotechnical indicators.
• Preparation of detailed geotechnical reports with findings, interpretations, and recommendations for foundation design, stability, and ground suitability.
• Adherence to relevant standards, guidelines, and contractual obligations, including submission of all deliverables in accordance with the Infrastructure Delivery and Procurement Management (FIDPM) guidelines.
• Pricing to cover all activities, including site investigations, testing, reporting, disbursements, and other related costs, with no additional costs post-appointment.
