Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to supply and deliver CCA preservative-treated gum poles for the Namakwa Refurbishment Scheme in the Northern Cape Province, supporting the Department of Water and Sanitation's infrastructure upgrade efforts. The project aims to ensure the provision of durable, treated timber poles suitable for water supply infrastructure, adhering to specified standards and quality requirements.

Scope

The scope encompasses the supply, transportation, and delivery of approximately 150/175 mm x 9 m CCA treated gum poles to the designated site at Steinkopf in the Northern Cape. The work includes compliance with technical specifications, adherence to delivery schedules, and ensuring all materials meet relevant standards such as SANS 10005, SANS 1288, and SAWPA guidelines. The contract also covers associated logistics, safety, and environmental considerations.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications mandate that:

• Gum poles must be treated to a hazard level of H4 to H5, suitable for ground contact and periodic wetting, as per SAWPA standards.
• Poles must be marked with a unique plant identifier, treatment certification mark, and standard compliance (e.g., SANS 1288, SANS 753, SANS 457).
• Poles should be supplied with anti-split end plates or metal tags indicating treatment class and certification details.
• The poles must conform to applicable standards, including SANS 10005, SANS 1288, and NZS 3640:2003, and be free from defects or damage.
• All packaging, transportation, and handling must ensure the integrity and safety of the poles during transit and delivery.

Skills and Competency Requirements

Bidder must demonstrate:

• Experience in supplying treated timber poles in accordance with South African standards.
• Capability to produce or supply poles that meet the specified hazard classification and certification requirements.
• Proven ability to adhere to delivery schedules and logistical arrangements, including transportation in suitable vehicles.
• Compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations on site.
• Provision of technical documentation, certification, and proof of compliance with standards and treatment processes.
• Capacity to provide after-sales support, including warranty services and replacement of defective poles if necessary.
