Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure a supplier for the Supply and Delivery of Chicken Giblets to the Department of Correctional Services, Durban Management Area, ensuring the provision of high-quality, certified poultry products in compliance with relevant standards and legislation.

Scope

The scope includes the supply, packaging, transportation, and delivery of frozen chicken giblets to specified correctional centers within Durban and Umzinto. The delivery must adhere to specified technical and quality standards, including proper packaging, storage, and transportation conditions, with compliance to all relevant food safety and hygiene regulations.

Technical Requirements

• The giblets must be inspected and certified as fit for human consumption by authorized officials.
• Packaging must be in sealed cardboard boxes (2kg, 5kg, 10kg) or plastic bags, clearly labeled with product name, supplier details, and inspection marks.
• Giblets must be frozen, free from bad odours, and maintained at temperatures not exceeding -18°C during transportation.
• Transport vehicles must be refrigerated, compliant with Regulations R638, and equipped to maintain appropriate temperatures.
• Delivery must be made within the specified schedule, during designated hours, with accompanying delivery notes and documentation.
• All products must meet the standards set out in the Department’s product specifications and relevant legislation.

Skills Requirements

• Proven experience in the supply and transportation of perishable food products, particularly poultry.
• Knowledge of food safety, hygiene standards, and relevant legislation (e.g., Foodstuffs Act, Meat Safety Act, R638 Regulations).
• Ability to provide certified documentation for food premises and transportation vehicles.
• Capacity to manage cold chain logistics effectively, ensuring product integrity from supplier to delivery point.
• Competence in documentation, compliance, and quality assurance processes related to food delivery.
