Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure the supply and delivery of fresh fruits and vegetables to Eskom Matla Power Station for a period of 2 years. The aim is to ensure a consistent, hygienic, and quality supply of perishable food products that meet specified standards, supporting the station’s operational needs and food safety requirements.

Scope

The scope includes the procurement, sourcing, packaging, transportation, and delivery of a wide range of fresh fruits and vegetables to Matla Power Station. The products must adhere to quality, safety, and hygiene standards, and be delivered in accordance with specified quantities, quality standards, and delivery schedules. The scope also covers compliance with environmental, safety, and food safety regulations, as well as the management of production, packing, storage, and transportation facilities.

• Supply and delivery of various fresh fruits (e.g., apples, bananas, berries, citrus, etc.) in specified grades and packaging.
• Supply and delivery of fresh vegetables (e.g., leafy greens, root vegetables, legumes, etc.) in specified grades and packaging.
• Adherence to hygiene, safety, and environmental standards during sourcing, processing, transportation, and delivery.
• Provision of quality assurance documentation, certificates, and compliance evidence.
• Coordination of delivery schedules and adherence to specified delivery points and times.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Compliance with food safety standards (e.g., ISO 22000, HACCP).
• Adherence to hygiene and hygiene regulations under the Foodstuff Cosmetics and Disinfectant Act and related regulations.
• Provision of samples for quality testing and approval prior to delivery.
• Use of refrigerated vehicles and proper packaging to maintain product freshness and prevent contamination.
• Compliance with environmental management standards (ISO 14001) and environmental impact assessments.
• Provision of valid certificates of compliance, environmental management, and safety standards.
• Implementation of quality control plans, inspection and test plans, and management of non-conformities.
• Adherence to delivery schedules, packaging, and labelling requirements.

Skills and Capabilities Requirements

The tenderer must demonstrate:

• Proven experience in supplying and delivering fresh produce to large industrial or institutional clients.
• Capability to source, process, package, and transport perishable goods under hygienic and food-safe conditions.
• Compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 22000, and ISO 14001 standards, with valid certifications or documented management systems.
• Qualified personnel with expertise in food safety, quality assurance, environmental management, and logistics.
• Facilities and equipment for proper storage, handling, and transportation of perishable goods.
• Ability to provide quality assurance documentation, certificates, and compliance evidence as required.
• Capacity to meet delivery schedules, quantities, and quality standards consistently over the contract period.
• Demonstrated safety, health, and environmental management systems aligned with Eskom’s SHEQ requirements.
