Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure the supply and delivery of Grade-A Pea Coal to the Durban Management Area, specifically for the Department of Correctional Services. The aim is to ensure a reliable supply of quality coal that meets specified standards, supporting operational needs within correctional facilities.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Supply and delivery of 300 tons of Pea Coal (Grade-A) for the month of November 2025.
• Delivery to specified locations within the Durban Management Area, including Westville Prison Premises.
• Provision of laboratory test results confirming coal quality, including adherence to specified specifications.
• Use of local supply depots and independent weighbridge facilities for weighing and verification.
• Compliance with all technical, safety, and quality standards as specified in the tender documents.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements for the tender include:

• Supply of Pea Coal with the following specifications:
  • Inherent Moisture: 2.5%
  • Ash: Max 15.1%
  • Volatile Matter: Max 25%
  • Fixed Carbon: Max 58%
  • Calorific Value: 27.96 MJ/kg
  • Total Sulphur: Max 0.72%
• Laboratory test results from an ISO17025 accredited lab confirming compliance with the specifications.
• Use of a local supply depot in KwaZulu Natal.
• Provision of weighbridge certificates from an RTI or registered facility within 20 km of the delivery site.
• Adherence to delivery schedules, including immediate availability within 24 hours upon request.
• Proper packaging, labeling, and documentation for all deliveries.
• Compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards as specified in the bid documents.

• Proven experience in the supply and delivery of coal or similar bulk commodities.
• Technical capability to meet specified coal quality standards and provide laboratory test results.
• Operational capacity to deliver within tight timeframes (within 24 hours upon request).

• Financial stability and capacity to undertake the supply contract.
