Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to supply, deliver, and install a 12-hectare Solidset Sprinkler Irrigation System at Mthakatye Irrigation Scheme in Nyandeni Local Municipality, OR Tambo District. The project aims to enhance irrigation infrastructure to support agricultural activities, utilizing mainly local labor and materials in accordance with relevant standards and norms.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Supply and delivery of all necessary pipes, fittings, and materials compliant with SABS standards.
• Installation of a reliable electric pump with specified capacity (68 m³/h at 70 m head) and all associated fittings.
• Electrical installation including motor, Variable Speed Drive (VSD), switchgear, and control systems.
• Construction of pipeline trenches, control valves, air valves, and other accessories as per drawings and specifications.
• Testing, commissioning, and handover of the irrigation system.
• Training beneficiaries and Departmental staff on operation and maintenance.
• Environmental management, safety, and site rehabilitation as per specifications.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements encompass:

• Adherence to South African Standards (SABS) and project specifications for pipes, fittings, concrete, and electrical components.
• Use of locally manufactured materials where possible, with certification and testing as specified.
• Installation of a sprinkler system with specified nozzle types, control valves, and automation units.
• Electrical systems compliant with SANS 1200 and ESKOM standards, including motor, switchgear, and cabling.
• Proper trenching, bedding, backfilling, and compaction for pipelines and structures.
• Implementation of environmental and safety measures, including erosion control, waste management, and site rehabilitation.
• Provision of all construction equipment, tools, and personnel necessary for completion within the stipulated timeframe.

Skills and Skills Requirements

The tender requires bidders to demonstrate:

• Valid CIDB registration in a minimum of CE class of construction works.
• Experience in similar irrigation projects, evidenced by project reference forms and experience schedules.
• Qualified key personnel, including project managers, site agents, and technical staff, with relevant CVs and certifications.
• Competence in electrical and civil construction, including pipe installation, concrete works, and electrical systems.
• Knowledge of environmental management, safety protocols, and occupational health standards.
• Ability to mobilize and manage local labor and resources efficiently.
• Provision of necessary plant, machinery, and equipment for construction, testing, and commissioning.
