Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to supply, overhaul, test, calibrate, and commission an Alpha Image 3D Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) for Transnet Engineering's Metrology Business. The scope includes retaining existing mechanical structures and components where feasible, while replacing only necessary items to ensure compatibility and reliability. The project also aims to provide all software licenses, backups, training, and comprehensive documentation to support the operation and maintenance of the equipment.

Scope

The scope encompasses:

• Design, manufacture, and installation of the upgraded CMM system.
• Construction of foundations as required.
• Supply of the equipment, including replacement, repair, testing, calibration, and commissioning.
• Retention of existing mechanical structures, scales, probes, cabling, and cabinets where possible.
• Provision of all necessary software licenses, manuals, and documentation.
• Submission of project completion documents and test certificates.
• Warranty and maintenance support for 12 months post-installation.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include compliance with all relevant legislation and standards, notably:

• SANS 10142: Low-voltage electrical installations.
• Standards specified by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) or British Standards Institution (BSI).
• Adherence to national/international safety and operational standards, including Act 85 of 1995.
• Equipment must be calibrated and tested, with valid calibration certificates issued within one month of handover.
• All equipment must have fail-safe protection systems and be capable of meeting specified performance criteria.

Additionally, the equipment installation must comply with environmental management and safety standards, including risk assessments and SHE (Safety, Health, Environment) requirements.

Skills and Experience Requirements

• Engagement of only specialist sub-contractors with proven experience in designing and manufacturing similar metrology equipment.
• Provision of detailed reference lists demonstrating successful completion of comparable projects, including contact details for site inspections.
• Availability of a competent project team with adequate experience to ensure smooth installation, integration, and commissioning.
• Capability to provide ongoing support, including spare parts procurement within 7 working days and fault repair within 7 days during the warranty period.
• Personnel involved must be suitably qualified, with all site personnel attending mandatory safety induction courses conducted by Transnet Engineering.
