Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a service provider responsible for the supply and management of a take-away business at the Afrikaanse Taalmonument on Paarl Mountain. The service provider will operate a facility that caters to visitors, staff, and the general public, providing a catering service that aligns with the ATM’s vision of showcasing modern, creative Afrikaans and its multicultural heritage. The aim is to offer a stylish, multilingual, and culturally reflective food and beverage experience that supports the ATM’s mission and enhances visitor engagement.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Leasing approximately 230 m² premises, including a semi-commercial kitchen, pizza oven, indoor seating, and outdoor paved area with umbrellas.
• Managing all business operations within the designated premises, including food preparation, service, and customer seating.
• Providing staff that reflect the demographics of the Afrikaans community, with multilingual capabilities and cultural awareness.
• Developing a menu that considers Afrikaans/African food heritage, including options for halal, vegetarian, vegan, etc.
• Implementing promotional activities, including social media, that reflect the ATM’s branding and cultural values.
• Ensuring compliance with health, safety, employment, and environmental standards.
• Managing operational costs such as rent, gas, fumigation, and refuse removal.
• Supporting the ATM’s visitor and event schedule, including special days, workshops, and private functions.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Provision of a fully operational take-away facility with appropriate kitchen equipment and seating arrangements.
• Adherence to health and safety regulations, including food safety standards and hygiene protocols.
• Implementation of environmentally sustainable practices, such as waste reduction, recycling, and use of local ingredients.
• Development of a multilingual menu that respects and promotes Afrikaans/African culinary heritage.
• Staffing with multilingual, professional, and culturally reflective personnel.
• Promotion of the business through social media and other marketing channels, aligned with ATM’s branding.
• Operational flexibility to accommodate special events and varying visitor numbers.
• Compliance with licensing, health, and safety regulations, including proof of relevant licenses and registrations.

Skills Requirements

The successful service provider must demonstrate:

• Experience in managing food service operations, preferably in a cultural or heritage setting.
• Proven ability to produce food catering to diverse dietary and cultural preferences.
• Capability to develop and implement a menu that reflects Afrikaans/African food heritage.
• Strong multilingual communication skills, with staff able to interact professionally in Afrikaans, English, and other relevant languages.
• Experience in marketing and promotional activities, including social media management.
• Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental standards applicable to food service businesses.
• Financial stability and capacity to operate sustainably within the specified budget and operational costs.
• Ability to collaborate with the ATM to support its cultural, educational, and visitor engagement objectives.
