Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a qualified and experienced service provider to undertake building refurbishment services, specifically focusing on the renovation of staff and visitors' ablution facilities within the Luthuli Museum. The project aims to enhance the aesthetic appeal and functionality of the ablution facilities through removal, disposal, and re-installation of tiling, as well as minor electrical work.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Removal and replacement of all floor and wall tiling in the ablution facilities.
• Installation of wall-mounted accessories such as hand towel holders, toilet roll holders, and soap dispensers.
• Electrical work involving the installation or replacement of electrical fittings and equipment.
• Cleaning and site cleanup post-completion.
• Work to be carried out in female, male, and disabled personnel ablution facilities, ensuring compliance with relevant standards.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Use of 600x1200mm tiles for walls, with proper bedding, jointing, and pointing using specified grout.
• Installation of water valves and accessories as specified.
• Provision of electrical fittings, including stainless steel hand dryers, water outlet valves, and other electrical equipment.
• Adherence to Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85, as amended).
• Proof of Public Liability Insurance of at least R1,000,000.00 prior to commencement.
• Submission of methodology detailing how the work will be conducted, including timeframes and safety measures.
• Compliance with defect liability period provisions, ensuring repairs or replacements due to poor workmanship or materials are covered at no cost to the museum.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Relevant experience in tiling and electrical works, with at least 1-2 completed projects of similar nature, supported by reference letters and certificates.
• Ownership or hire arrangement for necessary tiling tools and electrical equipment, with proof of ownership or hire agreements.
• Qualified personnel with appropriate professional qualifications, including electrical qualifications for key personnel.
• Ability to develop and implement a detailed methodology for the execution of the project.
• Compliance with health and safety standards, including regular safety checks and secure site management.
