Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to provide corrosion protection and surface coating services on an as-and-when-required basis at the Koeberg Nuclear Operating Unit for a period of five years. The service aims to ensure the integrity and longevity of plant components through specialized coating and lining applications, including emergent repairs, with adherence to Eskom’s safety, quality, and environmental standards.

Scope

The scope encompasses all planned and emergent corrosion protection activities, including:

• Preparation and application of coatings and linings on plant and non-plant areas, water boxes, pipes, pumps, and other equipment as specified.
• Execution of repairs, upgrades, and replacement of protective coatings and linings, including rubber linings and Corrocoat systems.
• Activities are to be carried out in accordance with the specified service specifications, quality assurance, and safety management procedures.
• Coordination of outage and online work, including planned shutdowns, refueling outages, and emergency interventions.

The contractor shall provide qualified personnel, equipment, and materials to meet the technical and safety standards, ensuring no delays to Eskom’s scheduled maintenance activities.

Technical Requirements

• Use of approved coating systems, including corrosion-resistant paints, rubber linings, and corrosion coatings such as Corrocoat.
• Application in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications, relevant standards (e.g., SANS, ISO, ASTM), and Eskom’s procedures.
• Surface preparation to specified standards (e.g., abrasive blast cleaning to Sa 2.5 or equivalent).
• Use of calibrated testing and inspection equipment for film thickness, adhesion, holiday detection, and surface cleanliness.
• Implementation of quality assurance and control measures, including hold and witness points, inspection reports, and documentation.
• Compliance with safety standards, including working in confined spaces, working at heights, and handling hazardous materials.
• Provision of detailed method statements, risk assessments, and safety plans aligned with Eskom’s SHE specifications.

Skills and Skills Requirements

• Personnel must be qualified and certified in relevant disciplines such as corrosion protection, coating application, rubber linings, and scaffolding.
• Key personnel include site managers, supervisors, technicians, safety officers, and rope access technicians, all with specified experience and certifications.
• Technical personnel must have experience in surface preparation, coating application, inspection, and quality control, with CVs and certificates provided.
• All staff must undergo safety, health, and environmental training, including site-specific induction, work at heights, confined space entry, and emergency procedures.
• Personnel must be competent in using testing equipment, safety gear, and working in high-risk environments, with proof of competency and training certificates maintained.
• Specialist skills such as rope access, confined space entry, and working at heights require specific certifications (e.g., IRATA, IWH, fall arrest training).
