Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure services for the renovation of the Marine Services Mess and Ablution Refurbishment Building at Point Precinct in the Port of Durban, to be completed within a six (6) month period. The project aims to upgrade and refurbish existing facilities to meet operational, safety, and hygiene standards, ensuring minimal disruption to port activities and compliance with relevant safety and environmental regulations.

Scope

The scope of work includes, but is not limited to:

• Refurbishment of the Marine Services Mess and Ablution Building, including demolition of existing fixtures and fittings.
• Supply and installation of new porcelain floor tiles (600mm x 600mm) and ceramic wall tiles (200mm x 200mm) with all necessary fittings.
• Provision and installation of vinyl-clad ceiling tiles and painting of walls with low sheen, durable paint with a minimum guarantee of 15 years.
• Construction of new brick walls, including bricklaying, plastering, and painting.
• Installation of new kitchen countertops, sinks, plumbing, and electrical fittings.
• Provision of new doors, burglar gates, windows with security film, and associated hardware.
• Provision of furniture such as couches, and other fixtures as per port standards.
• Electrical and mechanical upgrades, including lighting, ventilation, and fire safety equipment.
• Site clearance, high-pressure cleaning, and waste removal.
• Compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards throughout the project duration.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include, but are not limited to:

• Adherence to the specifications outlined in the scope of work, including the use of approved materials and fixtures.
• Provision of all necessary construction, electrical, plumbing, and finishing works in accordance with relevant standards and codes, including SANS standards.
• Implementation of health and safety measures as per Transnet’s specifications, including hazard identification, risk assessments, and safe work procedures.
• Provision of qualified and certified personnel, including project managers, supervisors, electricians, plumbers, and safety officers.
• Development and submission of a comprehensive Health and Safety Management Plan prior to commencement, with regular updates and audits.
• Compliance with environmental management practices, including waste management, spill control, and pollution prevention.
• Use of appropriate PPE and safety signage throughout the site.
• Proper planning and coordination of construction activities to minimize disruption to port operations.
• Provision of documentation such as method statements, risk assessments, inspection reports, and certificates of compliance for all works performed.
• Ensuring all work is completed within the specified six-month period, with quality standards met as per port and industry standards.
