Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to commission a turnkey solution for the eradication of pit latrines at Indala High School, Kwashange Primary School, and Swayimana High School within the Umgungundlovu District of KwaZulu-Natal Province. The project aims to safely and effectively eliminate existing pit latrines, ensuring improved sanitation facilities at the specified schools.

Scope

The scope of work includes the complete execution of the eradication of pit latrines at the three specified schools. This encompasses all necessary activities, from site preparation, excavation, waste removal, to the reinstatement of the sites, in accordance with the project specifications and requirements. The project is to be delivered as a turnkey solution, meaning the successful contractor will handle all aspects from start to finish.

Technical Requirements

• Provision of a valid CIDB registration certificate of Grade 5GB or higher.
• Proof of active and valid insurance cover, including:
  • Public liability insurance of R2 million or above.
  • Professional indemnity insurance of R5 million or above, covering all disciplines involved.
• Submission of professional registration certificates and CVs for key personnel:
  • Construction Project Manager (PrCPM / PrCM with SACPCMP)
  • Quantity Surveyor (SACQSP – Pr. QS)
  • Civil Engineer (Pr. Eng./Pr. Tech with ECSA)
  • Structural Engineer (Pr. Eng./Pr. Tech with ECSA)
  • Geotechnical Engineer (Pr. Eng./Pr. Tech with ECSA)
  • Occupational Health and Safety Manager (PrCHSA / PrCHSM with SACPCMP)
• Attendance at a compulsory site briefing meeting (online via Microsoft Teams).
• Completion of all tender documentation, including Bills of Quantities, Form of Offer, and Certificates, in full and in accordance with instructions.
• Provision of valid and active certificates for health and safety, insurance, and professional registration.

Skills Requirements

• Proven experience and competence in sanitation infrastructure projects, particularly pit latrine eradication.
• Ability to manage and coordinate multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, quantity surveyors, and health and safety professionals.
• Demonstrated capacity to deliver turnkey projects within specified timelines and quality standards.
• Knowledge of relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards.
• Effective communication skills for engagement with stakeholders and participation in the compulsory site briefing.
