Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure services for warehouse roofing repairs at the Saldanha Maintenance Depot and Bellville Wagon Maintenance Depot over a period of 6 months. The aim is to restore and maintain the integrity of the depot roofs to ensure operational efficiency and safety.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Inspection and assessment of existing roof structures, gutters, downpipes, and sidings.
• Removal and disposal of damaged roof sheeting, gutters, and other roofing components.
• Supply and installation of galvanized steel or Zincalume roof sheeting, gutters, and sidings as per specifications.
• Sealing, waterproofing, and resealing of joints, overlaps, and flashings.
• Repair or replacement of gutters, downpipes, and other associated roofing components.
• Minor repairs such as patching rust spots and sealing small holes.
• Major damage repairs including replacement of severely damaged sections with materials matching specifications.
• Compliance with relevant standards, safety, and environmental regulations.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify that all work must:

• Conform to South African National Standards (SANS), specifically SANS 10400, SANS 10237, and SANS 1273.
• Use IBR galvanized steel or Zincalume sheets with minimum thickness of 0.5mm, coated with Z275 galvanizing or AZ150 Zincalume.
• Incorporate proper sealing of joints, overlaps, and flashings with suitable sealants such as silicone or polyurethane-based products.
• Fix roof sheeting with self-drilling screws and neoprene washers, ensuring overlaps are sealed and fastened securely.
• Inspect existing roofing components for rust, damage, and leaks, and repair or replace as necessary.
• Ensure all repairs and installations are approved by qualified inspectors, with warranties of at least 3 years for materials and workmanship.
• Adhere to safety standards, including PPE requirements, working at heights, and environmental regulations.

Skills Requirements

The tenderer must demonstrate:

• Experience in roofing repairs, specifically with galvanized steel or Zincalume sheeting and gutter systems.
• Proven track record of similar projects completed within the past 10 years, supported by reference letters and project certificates.
• Qualified personnel, including a project manager, safety officer, and skilled roofers, supported by CVs and relevant SAQA qualifications.
• Health and safety expertise, including at least 5 years of experience and SACPCMP registration, with documented safety programs and incident records.
• Ability to develop and adhere to project schedules with clear timelines and milestones.
• Capability to supply and manage equipment, materials, and subcontractors as per project requirements.
• Compliance with all legal, environmental, and safety regulations, including the ability to provide necessary insurances and financial statements.
