Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to secure a service provider capable of performing annual maintenance and servicing of all Low Voltage (LV) switchgears and cradles at Grey's Hospital. The service aims to ensure the reliable operation, safety, and longevity of electrical switchgear equipment within the hospital's electrical infrastructure.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Inspection and cleaning of circuit-breakers, including checking operating mechanisms and springs.
• Visual inspection for dust, dirt, or damage, and cleaning as necessary.
• Assessment of contact wear and adjustment of moving contact detachment.
• Checking current transformers, terminal supports, fixed and moving contacts, arcing chambers, and associated electrical components.
• Servicing and checking the circuit-breaker operating mechanism, closing springs, racking devices, and control parts.
• Inspection and adjustment of trip settings according to coordination study.
• Testing and verification of electrical and mechanical operation, including insulation resistance and contact resistance tests.
• Provision of a detailed report after each service.

The service must be performed on-site, with work scheduled to minimize disruption, including after-hours and weekend work if necessary. The contractor must be specialized in electrical switchgear maintenance and hold relevant accreditation.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements for the tender include:

• Provision of proof of accreditation to service and repair LV switchgears.
• Submission of a safety plan and relevant certifications, including a valid letter of good standing from the Department of Labour.
• Experience in servicing LV switchgears and cradles, with references from previous similar work in public or private sectors.
• Compliance with all applicable standards, including South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) specifications and occupational health and safety regulations.
• Availability to work on-site, including weekends and after hours, and to leave the site clean and tidy after completion.
• Submission of a detailed schedule and cost per unit for the annual service of 48 switchgears and cradles.
• Provision of a report for each service conducted, documenting the condition and any repairs or adjustments made.
