Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure the supply of single vision optical lenses and related optical devices in accordance with the attached specifications, to meet the needs of Wentworth Hospital in KwaZulu-Natal. The procurement aims to ensure the availability of high-quality optical products that comply with national standards and regulations, supporting the hospital's vision correction and eye care services.

Scope

The scope of this tender includes:

• Supply of various types of single vision lenses (surfaced Pax, surfaced clear, stock clear, stock Pax) as per attached specifications.
• Provision of spectacle frames suitable for different face shapes, sizes, and age groups, including children and adults.
• Supply of accessories such as replacement nose pads, screw sets, and spectacle straps.
• Delivery of complete spectacle sets, packaged appropriately, within specified timeframes.
• Provision of optional accessories and future upgrade options at no additional cost.
• Compliance with technical, quality, and regulatory standards, including SABS approval and SAHPRA licensing.
• Provision of technical advice and after-sales support, including same-day service and warranty coverage.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Complete sets of spectacles with metal and plastic frames, lenses (organic plastic CR39), and accessories.
• Types of lenses: Organic Plastic (CR39), with options for fixed or gradient tints.
• Prescription ranges: Sph from 0.00 to +/-24.00; Cyl from 0.00 to -8.00, with high refractive index options for higher powers.
• Frames: Metal with flexi-temples, SABS approved, suitable for all face shapes, sizes, and age groups, with a variety of colours.
• Accessories: Replacement parts, spectacle straps, and optional add-ons, with clear pricing.
• Delivery: Within two weeks of order receipt, with proper packaging and verification processes.
• Compliance: Must meet SABS and SANS standards, with proof of approval and licensing.
• Service: Same-day delivery capability, warranty coverage of 12 months, and provisions for defective or incorrect orders.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• At least five (5) years of experience supplying optical devices and medical optical equipment.
• Provision of proof of registration with the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) for manufacturing or wholesale/distribution of medical devices.
• Current registration of an optometrist or dispensing optician with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) to advise on technical issues.
• Capability to deliver and assemble spectacles on the same day, ensuring prompt service.
• Ability to provide comprehensive after-sales support, including repairs, replacements, and technical advice.
• Provision of sample frames and demonstration of compliance with specifications.
• Qualified personnel with appropriate technical expertise in optical devices and eyewear.
